Webinar - An Introduction to Electrical and Current Signature Analysis and its Relation to Vibration Analysis

Title: An Introduction to Electrical and Current Signature Analysis and its Relation to Vibration Analysis

Presenter: Howard W Penrose, Ph.D., CMRP, CEM, CMVP, President, MotorDoc LLC

Abstract:

Electrical and Current Signature Analysis (ESA/MCSA) are methods of system-wide vibration analysis using electric machine air gaps as the transducer. While vibration requires a transmission path for data through materials, ESA/MCSA reads a direct relationship of the radial and torsonal forces on the magnetic field between the rotor and stator of electric machines. This allows the each technology to see all conditions within the scope of the technologies. ESA provides the ability to view power quality, electrical and mechanical components of the motor or generator, driven equipment mechanical components, and process conditions. Depending on whether single phase or three phase MCSA is used, current will detect electric motor electrical and mechanical components, driven equipment and process conditions. In both cases, component losses may be directly measured or estimated for purposes of defining severity of conditions. In this presentation we will discuss how ESA/MCSA works as well as several case studies related to electrical and mechanical conditions and the impact of these conditions on energy and emissions.
